Summer in Tokyo! (or should i say End-of-summer...)

The time is 5.07 AM. (don`t ask me why i am awake at this time. I haven`t gone to bed.)

Check out the scene outside my window:

Welcome to summer in Tokyo.. when darkness falls at 6.10pm and dusk starts at 4+ am. Did I mention that the humidity seems worse than Singapore? It`s irritatingly hot and sticky and all of us are falling asleep in the afternoon classes.

Captured this using my Nokia after school last week. Amazing right? Looks like some movie where the sky parted and something/someone magnificent is going to come through. maybe God? *Smile* But it was a very very hot day (especially if you have to walk like 15 minutes carrying tonnes of Japanese textbooks after stoning for the past few hours in a overheated classroom filled with irritated drowsy students).

Thank God it is 残夏 (zanshuu) now. A pretty name to denote the end of summer. Yeah autumn`s coming and it is my favourite Trenchcoat time of the year!! Even the departmental stores are putting up autumn stuff in their display. Cool! Can`t wait for my 2odegree days to come!

Back to Tokyo!

Humid.

That is the word to describe summer in Tokyo. It is 27degree celsius today but there is this horrible sticky feeling that makes you super irritated as the still air clings on to you.

Managed to check in my 35kg luggage at Changi Airport, thanks to a very nice SIA lady..(had to do some unpacking and lug my countless 8days magazines in my not-very-hardy Adidas bag). Slept on the plane, so tired! Thanks to my brother`s insight, i changed my seat online and it turned out that there was an empty seat next to mine (yeah! more space to stretch) on the nearly full SIA-ANA flight to Tokyo.

All was good, even managed to grab a light bite before going catching the 9am Airport Limo bus bound for Shinjuku. Was delayed for about 45min at Changi Airport due to congested air traffic, but hey i cleared immigration pretty quickly because i can go to the Japanese passport queue (tada! with my queued-up-for-2-hours Re-entry permit).

Pretty worried that my Samsonite will come out from plane losing a wheel or with a broken handle but thank God it managed to survive the throwing and handling. All went well till i arrived at Shinjuku JR station and there was NO upriding escalator to my platform. Armed with a 5kg laptop, one backpak, one duffel bag of magazines and a 35kg Samsonite.. there was no way i could carry the luggage up let me see, 30 flights of steps!

Went to ask the station control guy if he could reverse the escalator to make life easier for me, being the typical polite Japanese, he offered to manually carry the luggage up for me. He got a rude shock when he realised how much 35kg weighs in the shape of a innocent-looking red suitcase. HA! But thanks to him, i managed to board the train and reach home safely within 2hours of leaving Narita.

Being the cleanliness-freak i am, dragged my sleep-deprived body to vacuum and mop my floor, wash my aircon filters, and change my bedsheets. And by the end of the cleaning up, my whole t-shirt was drenched entirely in sweat. Whoever tells me that Singapore is warmer is definitely wrong!

My laptop couldn`t connect to the LAN and i was super stressed. I sort of knew this was going to happen when i lugged my lappy back to Singapore and got my brother to reconfigure it. Spent about 1 hour praying for the internet to work, gave up and went to take a nap after bathing.

Woke up in the evening, tried for another 2 hours, screamed, shouted, scolded myself and finally prayed.. ( i am really horrible at pc stuff.. all the DNS, IP don`t make any sense at all) Called up my trusty tech friend in Singapore, realised Japanese routers are made differently, dug out my instruction manual and kept praying.. finally managed to make it work after fiddling for 4hours.

Went for dinner with Xinyi and Yihui...it`s great to see them again! My Mandarin deproved due to lack of use in Singapore (Singlish is not exactly the same as Taiwanese Mandarin right?) haha... time to pack my bag for school tomorrow... must go to school early to get a good seat in the new classroom.

i realise how expensive things are in Tokyo again. *grrr*

The Lake House

Pretty deprived since a movie ticket in Japan costs S$15 (student price). Managed to catch `The Lake House` after returning to Singapore. Watched it because of Keanu Reeves (ya i know he can`t act and emotes like a piece of wood but he`s cute!) but was pleasantly surprised. Not a fan of Korean movies and music but since this is adapted from `Il Mare` (the original Korean movie), it had traces of Asian element, not unlike Japanese`s kind of romantic mushiness, which i like (pass the Kleenex please...)

The time travel thing was a bit too much for a non-thinker, not-so-smart person like me but it`s a movie anyway so i didn`t dwell too much on that aspect. The music`s really good so i am going to get the OST.

My take is that it is all about waiting. Having the courage, having the patience to wait and having the faith to believe in the other person who means so much to you. He waited because she told him to. She knew he would. He did. Yeah. (ok, no spoiler here i hope..)

The movie got me curious about `Persuasion` by Jane Austen. Had always been daunted by Austen`s link with serious fiction (or at least A level`s Literature text) but i want to know if the book is also about waiting. Ha, this shall be my first attempt to read Jane Austen but heard she is pretty good so stay tuned for my review.

I want to stay in a house by the sea, not a lakehouse (too transparent for my liking, maybe just a glass ceiling to stargaze at night will be lovely) but the mailbox is a very romantic notion. Who still writes letter in this age of emailing and SMS-ing? I love writing letters and cards, it is very different from typing out how you feel.. pretty much like writing a journal vs writing a blog. But i am not complaining. Thank God for the internet since I am staying like 5317km away from Singapore..

Keanu is still as gorgeous (some say stiff but i am biased..ha!) and Sandra is pretty convincing as the doctor who is doing some soul searching. Catch the movie, you will be surprised. It is not your usual Hollywood love story.. the time travel thing will be a bonus for those thinkers who sneer at sappy sob love stories! Watch it!!

God`s love is beautiful

Whenever i hear this song, i wanna dance and make a joyful noise onto the Lord. Whether it is singing in English or worshipping in Japanese at Shinjuku Shalom Church, it reminds me of God`s vibrancy and energy!

YOUR LOVE IS BEAUTIFUL (LIVE) (Hillsong)

Video Code provided by VideoCodeZone.Com

You surrounded me with songs of praise
You have bought me to this place
Where your love and grace, move within my life

Now Your message is my light

Your love is beautiful
Your love is beautiful
It's the reason why I sing

All around the world, let the praise begin
All around the world, let the praise begin

I am planted here by the waters and

I'm living for the King
I have found my peace in the house of God
This is where I'm meant to be
